This listing concerns repairs that were carried out on four Parish Cottages in the village of Shrivenham called Dodds Cottages. These are the same cottages that were sold off in the 1920's and form a separate listing in this catalogue. (See Listing No N426).
The surcharge was originally levied because it was felt that the Overseers had exceeded their authority in the amount spent for repairing the roofs of the cottages. The surcharge was subsequently revoked on appeal.
To learn of the origins of the cottages please see Listing No N425
