In the summer of 2020, workmen carrying out work at St Andrew's Church, Shrivenham, uncovered the entrance to a burial vault. The vault was examined by Dr Margaret Andrews who carried out a detailed archaeological survey of the construction of the vault and its contents. However, at no time were the contents moved or disturbed in any way. It was clearly the burial chamber for the Barrington family, the various Viscounts being the local Lords of the Manor. Subsequent reearch has discovered that the first phase of the vault was constructed on the instructions of Mary Lady Viscountess Barrington, (d.1764) the wife of William Wildman Lord Viscount Barrington (2nd) (d.1793) circa 1760. There was a second phase added in the 19th century.
