Death Warrant of King Charles I
Henry (Harry) Marten - known as 'The Regicide' because of his signature on the King's Death Warrant

Death Warrant of King Charles First

We have three photocopies of the original document which shows all the signatures of the parliamentary officials who were brave enough to sign it. This brought about the first occasion on which a reigning English monarch was tried and executed by his own subjects. The warrant bears the signiture of Henry (Harry) Marten, who inherited the Beckett estate, Shrivenham, from his father the Judge Henry Marten.
