The Bourton Fete of 1922

The Fete of 2nd August 1922 was no ordinary Fete, and it's purpose was to raise money towards the restoration of the church organ, a lovely pipe organ installed in St James' church in 1881. As well as the usual attractions of a village Fete there was also a Tennis Tournament and Flower Show. So much was resting on the day being a success, that Fete Committee Chairman, Col. W.H. Ames, insured it against the possibility of rain and would receive £100 should it have happened.

The occasion was covered by a Reporter for the Faringdon Adveriser newspaper, and a PDF copy of it can be read by going HERE.

This is a remarkable, intact file, containing all the purchase invoices that were involved for the events of the day, including a list of the prize money given to the exhibitors and Col. Ames' accounts of the costings and profits at the end.
