Bourton Schooling - early period

In the early period of the school set up by the Tuckers, there was much religious intollerance and people who didn't adhere strictly to the Church of England faith were labelled non-conformists or dissenters. Because the Tuckers mainly followed the Baptist teachings their school was critisised by Rev. George Murray, Vicar of Shrivenham, and his Churchwardens. One of the official 'Visitors' to the school was Rev. Suckling, and he caused a lot of problems for the head teacher, John King. This file contains letters written by these people and is explained in more detail in the publication, 'Schooling at Bourton' available in print and online by going HERE
