On the 21st July 2007, an unusual set of meteorlogical conditions caused a thick cover of nimbus clouds to virually remain static over southern England, sending down torrential rain for many hours continuously. The sheer amount of water completely overwhelmed the rivers, streams and drainage systems and two areas near Shrivenham effectively cut the village off temporarily, Acorn Bridge and Northford Bridge. This flood event caused chaos, cutting Shrivenham off over night. A420 traffic was diverted through the village as the by-pass was impassible.
