We know that there was a Whipping Post at Shrivenham, probably located in the High Street at the junction of Church Walk. A drawing by J.C Buckler, dated 1819 shows what it looked like. It was also very close to the village cross which also stood at this location.
We can only speculate as to how often the stocks and whipping post were used, and as yet we have no documentary evidence of any sentence which entailed the miscreant being subjected to their use.
The Rev Canon Hill, in his book of the history of Shrivenham (See listing No N1316) notes that the remains of the whipping post was for some time kept at the village school.
