Clay pipes are an interesting part of the history of mankind. From the early 17th century until the mid 19th century, there were many manufacturers of Clay Pipes in Gt Britain. The photo on this listing shows an early bowl (small and quite steeply angled) and a selection of broken stems, all from the Shrivenham district. They have been arranged in the photo whereby the ink lines drawn either side of the stems, line up with the makers mark. The smallest stem shows the mark of William Fery who was from Marlborough and was in operation circa 1700 AD
