Bourton Farm Sale of 1893

These documents form part of the collection called the Bourton House papers (BHP). The Sale was brought about by the death of John Allaway, the previous owner, who died on the 12th May 1893. (Probate granted 5/7/1893). They have been put into a seperate listing because it is a significant sale due to the large size of the land involved - 180 acres in total, plus two meadows seperately. The main transaction is covered by an Indenture dated 29th September 1893, that includes a plan and schedule, and is in excellent condition.

The deal was for the price of £7,300 and the description was for the whole farm, several houses and farm buildings etc in Fee Simple (Freehold), and was purchased by Mr Henry Arkell a Farmer from Penhill, Stratton St Margaret, Swindon.

There was a seperate deal whereby two meadows that had been purchsed seperately in 1842 by Henry Tucker, were sold sperately to Henry Tucker for £950. There is a plan to show the fields called Waites Mead and North Waites Mead.

John Allaway purchased the farm in 1888 upon the death of Sarah Lawrence. To read more about that sale see Listing No: N758
