Theses documents are part of the collection called Bourton House papers (BHP). Whereas the locale has been known as Swanhill for several centuries, it's less well known that it was a farm. It was put up for sale by Lady Kendall-Butler in 1943 as she seemed to struggle with the finances of the estate after the death of her husband Sir Cyril. The farm was purchased by Thomas Curtis of Southdown farm, Longcott, for £1800, the Reserve price.
There is a bundle of letters with this file, mainly between Lady Butler, her solicitors and Estate Agent, Hobbs & Chambers of Faringdon, but also a family relative who seems to be employed within the finacial business.
The farmhouse is described in the schedule as No 9 and there is a general description of it. The same building was included in a sale of Lower Field Farm and there are descriptions in the Indentures that describe how it was once three cottages. See Listing No N3579.
