James Fereman's name ocurrs quite often in documents concerning Bourton House Estate in the last quarter of the 19th century and into the 20th. It started with Fereman senior who was a Farmer and Land Agent and held the tenancy of Strattonborough Castle Farm at Watchfield (N323) and dealt with the estate farming matters for Henry Tucker at Bourton. But for James Fereman senior, after a period of mental health issues, his life ended abruptly in 1886. His son, also James, took over the farm and his role as Land Agent, and became a well-known and trusted name in the local community.
