The Overseer & the Pauper

This is an interesting short read and portrays how the poor of Shrivenham were treated in the 18th century. Researched and written by the late, and much missed, Mervyn Penny; native of Shrivenham, eccentric extraordinaire. His findings are based on the records of the Overseers of the Poor, that cover the period 1738 - 1759.
