Henry Barrington in South Africa

This listing is to give an overview of how a member of the Barrington family from Beckett in the Parish of Shrivenham, went to South Africa as a Settler in the relatively new British Colony. Henry was the 12th child of George and Elizabeth Barrington (5th Viscount & Viscountess). He was born in 1808 and went to South Africa in 1838. He later built the beautiful property called Portland Manor near Knysna and the story of the Barringtons revolve around this property and area of the Cape of Good Hope. This listing would be a good place to start for any historian researching the Barringtons in this part of the world.

In this file there is also a copy of Henry's family Tree
