Harold Claridge

Sergeant Harold J. Claridge Regiment No. 63987, first Caretaker of the Shrivenham Memorial Hall, receiving his military medal for bravery and service whilst serving with the 37th Battery Royal Field Artillery on 28th January 1918. Photocopy of the ceremony was donated by his grandaughter 31st August 2010. She said that as a caretaker Sgt Claridge was amazing at doing all the sweeping, cleaning and maintenance work of the hall despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in battle.

The other image is an extract from the Edinburgh Gazette promulgating his award of the Military Medal.
