Craven Estate Papers

There was much land and property within the parish of Ashbury that belonged to the Craven Estate. The local seat of the Craven family lies about one mile up the hill just off the road to Lambourne, called Ashdown House. There are several documents in this file that include: the surrender of the lease of the village hall, maps of the area, newspaper cuttings, a poem and an agreement between Lady Craven and the Faringdon Rural Council,  for a water supply for the Parish of Ashbury in 1923. There is also a hand-written list of what appears to be the names of Ashbury Parish Council Chairmen and councillors.
