The 'Highworth Circle' at Stratton Park

The term 'Highworth Circle' has been given to several large circles that can be seen in the fields around Highworth in Wiltshire. There are others located near neighbouring villages including Longcott and Stratton Park on the eastern side of Swindon. They are enigmatic in that it is not certain what purpose they served. To try and solve the mystery an excavation was carried out in 1975 on the circle that was in Stratton Park. It probably no longer exists as it was directly alongside the A419 Stratton By-Pass.
